In having learnt about the many different approaches to teaching and the many different ways that children can learn, I would like to believe that I will not teach to just one 'style'. I will have a classroom that hosts to many different styles that may incorporate any of these...
Constructavist (Social Constructivism)
'...a mode of instruction that emphasies the active role of the learner in building and understanding and making sense of information.' (Woolfolk cited in Marsh, 2008, p. 169). This harbours many traits of 'problem-based learning'. This learning style see's student and teacher working collaboratively to formulate questions, address complex issues and resolving them.

Mind Up Curriculum...
Children are taught about the brain, how it controls emotions and their bodies. Once they understand their brain, they can understand their own behaviors. It was a joy, while living in California, to be exposed to this amazing and very worthwhile curriculum. Speaking from direct observation, I witnessed it's enormous impact on my own child. It had a profound impact on my son. In 2014, he witness an horrific accident involving his younger brother. Only five years old at the time it was traumatic. A few months later, in his Grade 1 classroom, his teacher was teaching to the Mind Up Curriculum. He had an epiphany. He could connect his, and his brothers, actions and response to the accident. It helped him to understand. It is a powerful and very worthwhile program. |
